“There is a natural mystic blowing in the air”, says/sings Brother Bob Marley. That sentiment is applicable to Guyana at the moment.
One of the immediate positives of the change of government has been the revival of the civic spirit. President Granger’s move to cleanup Georgetown has been emulated by several communities across the country—on their own without any official direction.
One community—Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara--went further. Led by a community organization, the Stanleytown Development Group, the community has organized its own Flag raising Ceremony to observe Guyana’s 49th Independence anniversary.
Slated for tonight, Monday May 25 at 8 pm, the ceremony will feature cultural presentations and addresses by prominent community and national leaders. Although the event would be held in Stanleyown, it is really a West Bank event.
This is civic responsibility at its finest—an example of self-activity of people in their community. Big up the West Bank people.
If you live on the West Bank and even further afield, please make a special effort to attend this event.
