Advice from the People—the heart and soul of the Coalition’s victory

And finally they swore in David Granger. He is now Guyana’s Head of Government and State. The occasion of his swearing in brought thousands to the parliament. They came to witness history—their history. After 23 years Guyana can now breathe again—free from the tyranny of the worst government Guyana has produced.

As I walked the crowd I could feel the sense of relief. Those who recognized me had words of congratulations and advice. As far as the advice is concerned, three elements stood out. They advised that we should never allow this new government to deteriorate to the level to which the PPP sunk. Second, they want those who raped the treasury and committed other political atrocities to be prosecuted. Third, the elderly begged me to impress upon my colleagues the need to harness the energies of the youth who gave energy to the challenge and victory of the Coalition.
