I am in Bob Marley mode today. As always, Resistance mode.
Election Day is just over a week away. Many people are asking me to predict the results. Unlike previous elections it’s difficult to predict this one. This is largely due to the fact that the inevitability of a PPP victory is gone. Even the PPP has admitted that.
Many are understandably hopeful of a victory for the Coalition for there is no denying that the “Green and Yellow” has the momentum. When you force the Captain to throw one of his sailors overboard, even if it is gimmick, you know the ship is sinking.
What is different about this election is that ordinary people, the masses, the salt of the earth are turned on. That is always a good sign. I have always believed in permanent mobilization. The PPP has been very good at demobilizing the people with bribes, lies and intimidation. The strategy was clear—if you cannot win their votes, demobilize them. It worked. As Brother Bob says:
See them fighting for power
But they know not the hour
So they bribing with their guns, spare-parts and money,
Trying to belittle our Integrity now.
They say what we know
Is just what they teach us
And we're so ignorant
Cause every time they can reach us
Through political strategy
They keep us hungry
But now we have freed ourselves from that--”Now we see the light…”
Well, what we know
Is not what they tell us
We're not ignorant, I mean it,
And they just cannot touch us;
Through the powers of the Most High
We keep on surfacing
Thru the powers of the Most High
We keep on surviving.
They are working over-time on our Indian Guyanese brethren and sisterin. They are inventing all kinds of Jumbies to scare them into staying on the sinking ship. We have to give our sisters and brothers the strength to come over to the side of Freedom.
Our job is clear. Get every Coalition supporter to the polls—every single one. Every single one of us must become a campaigner. Our job is not only to turn out at the rallies. But each of us must commit to taking ten persons to the polls with us. We will win only when we win. We have to be fearless in these last days. Let me reach for Bro. Bob again.
No bullet can stop us now
We neither beg nor we won't bow
Neither can be bought nor sold.
We all defend the right
Jah - Jah children must unite
Your life is worth much more than gold.
